This year it was the following verses that have and continue to speak to my heart: 26Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city in Galilee called Nazareth, 27to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the descendants of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary. 28And coming in, he said to her, “Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you.” 29But she was very perplexed at this statement, and kept pondering what kind of salutation this was. 30The angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God.
In the past, I've never thought about what God's "favor" meant in Mary's life. I realize there is an enormity to being chosen to be the mother of God's Son that I can't fully comprehend. This year, I am more intrigued with the things Mary endured in her life as the result of being favored by God as the mother of Jesus.
I've been convicted that sometimes my ideas about God's favor are based on my own human desires rather than the truths contained in God's Word.
How about your ideas about God's favor? I'm praying that in 2017, God's favor will truly be the desire of my heart no matter what that looks like in my life.
